How do we... use a computer?

East of England Winners of 'Make It Happen' 2008

Gorseland's Web Club entered the Make It Happen 2008 competition in March and, for their entry, the children decided to create a way in which they could help the children of Kudawella and other schools to learn about computers and other forms of technology.

George & Aisha made a PowerPoint presentation on how to use a digital camera, so that the children of Kudawella could take pictures & email them to us. Georgia and Josh made a PowerPoint presentation about the basic parts of a computer & how to use them, so that when Kudawella have access to computers it will help them to learn. Chloe & Jenna created a poster explaining about the different parts of a computer, which we could also use on our website.

The fantastic work that the children produced won the East of England Award & prize money of £1,000. The children were invited to the Houses of Parliament to collect their award & had a wonderful day out in London. They visited the Tower of London followed by a boat trip along the Thames to Westminster, where they were given a tour through Parliament & were granted special permission to sit and watch in the House of Lords.  See 'Look What We Did!' for pictures a picture diary.

Well done to all the children, they were absolutely fantastic!

A mouse is used for moving the little arrow on the screen

A keyboard is something attached to your computer and when you push different buttons it makes letters appear on the screen.

A computer is something, which you can look things up on. You can also make slide shows and you can print things off on the printer.

You use a computer screen to look at the things that you want to look at from the computer.

During their project the children used computers, digital camera, video camera and interactive whiteboard.

The software they chose to use was Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Movie Maker.

They used the internet to search for information and pictures and FrontPage 2003 was used for making the web pages.
