A Taste of Africa

Potatoes, Tomatoes, Onions

Kidney Beans

Aubergines,

Sweet Potatoes

We had friends visit our school from Africa.

Jovias, Mujuni and their teacher, Jackson, came to England

to visit their twin school in East Bergholt.

Whilst they were here, they came to spend the day with us at Gorseland school.

They taught us about their lives and their school and what it's like to live in Africa.

Then they cooked us a traditional African meal.

Jackson had grown aubergines in his garden in Africa. We used aubergines in the recipe and he showed us how to prepare them.

There was a lot of peeling and chopping to do, so we all joined in and worked together.

We peeled and chopped potatoes, onions and tomatoes.

We also used Kidney beans but they didn't need peeling or chopping.

We also cooked sweet potatoes to eat. They had a tough skin, which we had to scrub clean but once they were cooked the skin was very soft. Inside, the sweet potatoes can range in colour from white to bright orange.

We put the sweet potatoes onto a baking tray and placed them in the oven to cook.

Once we had prepared all the other vegetables we put them into a huge pot to cook.

It took a little while before for the beans and vegetables where ready to be eaten.

But once everything was ready we all sat down together to enjoy the meal. The food was really good, most of us peeled the skin off of our sweet potatoes but you could eat it with the skin on. The beans and vegetables were really tasty and we got to have seconds too.

We thoroughly enjoyed having our friends with us and we enjoyed our taste of Africa.
